Construction engineering and management has developed to assimilate the fragments of the construction industry that come together to deliver projects. A breadth of appreciation of processes and organizations within the industry from conception to completion is required to fulfill this role. The program helps students to deal with this variety and to deliver projects that meet client objectives and personal satisfaction. It integrates knowledge from building economics, project planning, design and construction with management and human relations that is highly required for the successful completion of the projects. It has drawn students who are quantity surveyors, building surveyors, civil engineers, construction managers, structural engineers and building services engineers. Student research has produced perceptive insights into current practice which has been used to improve the delivery of buildings. The focus is on the main principles and techniques of planning, control, execution and engineering of construction projects. The graduate program in Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental offers excellent opportunities for study and research in various fields of structural engineering. The program in provides opportunities for study in the analysis and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete, steel, masonry, and composite structural systems. The Water Resources and Environmental Engineering program provides students the opportunity to study a broad range of topics related to environmental problems, and to pursue advanced research in specific areas of interest, with a focus on the application of modern quantitative techniques to practical problems in environmental engineering. The program educates engineers who will solve environmental and water resources problems by applying fundamental principles from natural sciences, mathematics, mechanics and other underlying disciplines. Engineering geophysics is a new field which applies geophysics to engineering with reference to a broad spectrum of societal and industrial environmental problems. The program offers students of engineering and the geological and oceanographic sciences the opportunity to broaden and strengthen their backgrounds with emphasis on environmental applications by taking selected courses from graduate programs based in the School of Engineering and graduate programs in the geological sciences and oceanography (based in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences) in conjunction with existing M.S. and Ph.D. Programs.
The program encompasses multidisciplinary field, laboratory, and modeling studies using state-of-the-art geophysical, engineering, and oceanographic practice and theory. A comprehensive suite of research facilities is available for these studies, including geophysical, engineering, and marine field and laboratory instrumentation. For students of engineering, the program can provide training in geophysical methods and a geological and marine context for engineering applications. For students of geological and oceanographic sciences, the program can provide reciprocal training and training in engineering subjects that enhance their capabilities. The Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo (or the Engineering School of the University of São Paulo, Portuguese: Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo) (usually called Poli, Poli-USP or EPUSP) is an engineering school at the University of São Paulo (USP) in São Paulo, Brazil.
It was founded in 1893 - before the creation of USP itself - and was the first engineering school in the state of São Paulo. Its original name was "Escola Politécnica de São Paulo". It was incorporated by USP in 1934. Its students are known as "politécnicos".
Since many graduates from the Escola Politécnica have, throughout Brazilian history, occupied positions with public exposure and/or business and industry leadership, including ten mayors of São Paulo and six state governors, it has a reputation of "training leaders". The Escola Politécnica is part of the University of São Paulo, widely regarded as one of the best higher education institutions in Latin America, but has acquired a reputation in its own right, having its civil, electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering courses ranked as the best in the country in 2014.[4]
Internationally, along with the other engineering schools of USP (São Carlos School of Engineering and Lorena School of Engineering), the Escola Politécnica was ranked among the top 100 engineering schools worldwide by Academic Ranking of World Universities.[5] Its computer science, chemical, civil, electrical/electronic, mining and mechanical engineering departments were also ranked in the top 100 worldwide in the QS World University Rankings.[6] The school offers numerous double-degree and open exchange programs for its students, celebrating in 2015 its 1,000th double diploma between USP and its partner universities.
Admission for undergraduates takes place annually, along with all other courses in the USP, through an exam called "vestibular" held by an institution named FUVEST (University Foundation for the Vestibular). The Escola Politécnica selects only 870 students out of 13,500 applicants,[7] making it the largest engineering admittance exam in Brazil and also one of the most competitive. Students who have begun their engineering degree elsewhere in Brazil can also transfer to the Escola Politécnica if they pass a specific examination.

Environmental and safety technicians apply the principles of science, engineering, communication, and economics to protect and enhance the safety and health of humans and of our natural resources. Job opportunities are very diverse with many graduates of the program being employed with environmental consulting firms, water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, construction companies, and governmental agencies. Careers opportunities in this field are growing faster than average and expected to continue growing through 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
We have collaborative ties with technology-oriented companies in Connecticut to complement our interactions with physics and engineering faculty at nearby Yale and other universities. We are also actively involved in public outreach, including work to promote science education in Connecticut public schools.
